Halloween 2012/Dwight K Schrute

via instragram
Hey guys! So as I mentioned in my previous post regarding past costumes, I wanted to keep this year a secret. But I already went to my party so the secret is out! I went to a party on Saturday night and didn't tell anyone what I was beforehand. When I arrived I mostly got faces of confusion and then a giant "OH MY GOD!" with the slow realization that I was the character Dwight Schrute from The Office. A cute version, I guess. I've seen male Dwight costumes but never a women's, so I thought I'd give it a go!

I got a calculator watch from Walmart, thrifted a mustard women's button up, ugly tie and briefcase, and wore some khaki skinnies and oxfords that I already had. I struggled the most with the glasses. I couldn't find ANY that looked like his! So I ended up popping out the lenses on a pair of aviators.

Then I printed out/laminated a "Dunder Mifflin" I.D badge, printed out a few Schrute Bucks and all night long I dished out "Facts", "Questions" and screamed for "MICHAEL!" It was really fun (and cheap!) and so I thought I'd give you some visuals on how to do it too! And for all of you last minute costume creators out there, you're welcome to steal this! Don't forget to mention Bears, Beets, and Battlestar Galactica ;)

(I also tried making a jello mold with a stapler inside but it didn't have enough time to set so it failed miserably. Would have been hilarious though!)

I hope everyone has a fun (and safe) Halloween!

Currently/Fall Favorites

So lately I've been wandering around the blogosphere, taking notes, gathering ideas and just being ridiculously inspired by all of the amazing bloggers out there (there dedication and ability to not only document, but LIVE such interesting lives is seriously incredible.) But during my blog-travels I found this blogger Nicole from Flip flops and Combat Boots who started doing this little segment (I guess we can call it that?) which she got from another blogger by the name of Lauren over at siddathornton, and well I just had to give it a go! It's basically just a way to update readers on what you're doing, well, currently! (And in a neat/clever way!) So here we go then.

Reading: The novelization of the film Big Fish by Daniel Wallace. (I almost just wrote David Wallce! The Office, anyone?)

Writing: A little grocery list of healthy snacks I need to purchase. So far all I have is a pomegranate and hummus, and I'm pretty okay with that.

Listening: To myself chew on a delicious pink lady apple!

Thinking: That I use way too many exclamation points.

Smelling: A pumpkin spice candle I bought at Walmart for about $4. It's one of the most delicious smells and I've nearly used the whole thing up since I bough it a few weeks ago!

Wishing: I was back in school right now. Since graduation I've been longing for homework and all the wonderful things being in college allows for.

Hoping: I make some good money at work tonight! Without going crazy in the process.

Wearing: An oversized gray sweater and some black leggings. Typical lazy potato attire.

Loving: The teal nail polish I just painted on myself!

Wanting: To get into shape. I've been all talk lately about wanting to get into jogging and all I really need is a firm kick in the butt to get me going.

Needing:  A chiropractor. My back is all sorts of messed up. (I'm a serious sloucher)

Feeling: Anxious about the internship I just applied for.

Clicking: through photos of inspiration for my Halloween costume this year. It's a surprise but once i have all the pieces i'll snap a picture and share!

I compiled some of the items I've had my eye on that I'm swooning over for my fall/winter wardrobe.
Most of them are a bit (understatement) out of my price range, but a girl can dream!

(DIY) Halloween Costume Ideas

Hello hello. Today I thought I'd share two of my previous Halloween costumes because this is about the time of the year when people begin brainstorming/googling up a storm trying to concoct something! (I know I do!)

Years ago I dressed as Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction. My friend happened to have this pen that looked like a needle, so I broke it and made it look like it was sticking into me. Then I bought a wig, threw together her very simple outfit (sans coat) and bloodied myself up! I also dabbed some sugar on my nose to add to the drugged out look. I live near Salem, MA where people flock during this holiday and throughout the night so many people asked to take pictures of/with me! It was fun to be recognized and play a character. "I said goddamn!"

I created this costume during the height of the drink Four Loco's popularity. I figured I'd just be a 20 something year old party animal who thought they'd be cool and crush the can until their skull. Only, it killed them instead!  So I cut up the can (fyi I did not drink it first, god awful drink let me tell you) and hot glued it to a headband! then I created a quite realistic bloody mess near the impact spot and voila! This costume took me about 20 minutes to make and it was so low maintenance I forgot it was there for most of the night.

Hope this helps a little! Getting creative with your costume is half the fun of Halloween, I think! Plus you don't have to worry about someone wearing the same costume as you. This year my costumes a secret so once I have pictures i'll show you :)

UPDATE: Here's my costume this year!

Tick of Time

Okay, I don't know if you've noticed but I haven't blogged in quite some time (with the exception of yesterday's Julie Andrews post). I'm just plain terrible at this whole thing. I mean, I love blogging, reading blogs, researching ideas for things to blog about, but i'm terrible at the whole...following through thing. It's a pretty serious problem in just about all aspects of my life. I'm always thinking in the future and when it's time to do something in the present, man do I panic. But I'm trying to live in the "now" and set goals that I actually plan on accomplishing because I'm at that point in my life where I'm kind of in a rut. And I think that blogging will be a great way to get out of it! And probably eating lot's of sweets. But who are we kidding, I do that all the time.

So I've been seeing a lot of neat clocks and watches around the internet lately, and I thought I'd share some favorite that I'd love to wear or hang in my own home someday! Plus I guess I thought it might be appropriate because I was rambling on about the future/present/time and I'm usually pretty scatter brained. See! Blogging has already helped!

Love Her Style - Julie Andrews (Birthday Tribute)

In honor of her birthday today, I figured i'd do a "Love Her Style" edition of Julie Andrews! She's the definition of timeless. Sure she's known for her voice, and maybe a little role by the name of Mary Poppins, but this dame (literally a Dame) has always had an effortless and elegant style. She's poised and composed and has lead such a full and interesting life. I'd love to sit and have a cup of tea with her (with a spoon full of sugar, obviously) (cheeseball alert) Plus she's always rocked a shorter hairstyle, which I will always be envious of. Happy Birthday, Julie Andrews! You're a true inspiration.

"Sometimes I'm so sweet I can't even stand it."

"I'm an optimistic lady."

Happy October, all!
